The streets of Tel Aviv

העיר תל-אביב נוסדה בשנת 1909, כאשר ארץ ישראל הייתה עדיין תחת השלטון אוטומני. היא הפכה למטרופולין תחת המנדט הבריטי על פי הקווים שהניח האדריכל פטריק גדס במהלך שנות העשרים של המאה העשרים. ביולי 2003 הכריז אונסקו, ארגון האומות המאוחדות לחינוך, מדע ותרבות, על 'העיר הלבנה' - מרקם עירוני, היסטורי וייחודי של תל-אביב-יפו, כאתר מורשת תרבות עולמית. בהכרזה זו, הכיר העולם באיכויות האדריכליות המיוחדות של הבניינים, הרחובות, הכיכרות והשדרות בתל-אביב.

Tel Aviv was founded in 1909, when the Land of Israel was still controlled by the Ottoman Empire. It developed into a metropolitan city under the British Mandate in Palestine. The framework of its urban planning was set in 1925’s by Patrick Geddes’ plan, which defined major routes and boulevards along with division into living quarters with internal green spaces.

In July, 2003, UNESCO has declared the city of Tel Aviv as part of the world’s cultural heritage and named it “The White City of Tel-Aviv”.
